NAILBA 2021 Board of Directors Criteria

Agency Membership must be current in NAILBA.

This is always an exciting time of year as we look ahead at what the future may bring personally and professionally. Now is the time to take charge and raise your game! Supporting NAILBA programming and serving on the board provides incredible opportunities to "belong, connect and grow" wholesale brokerage and independent distribution.

We are currently accepting nominations and applications for positions on the Board of Directors for next term. As a member of NAILBA, you have the privilege of nominating yourself or other members to serve on the Board of Directors. We invite you to submit yourself or to recommend someone who you think would be a great leader or contributor to our industry.

The Board of Directors of the organization is responsible for determining the organization goals, policy, and approving the annual budget. As a group and individually, members of the Board are legally and ethically responsible for all activities of the organization.

Active Board Participation: Two to four hours per month. This includes attending board meetings (via teleconference), any committee or specified retreat (in-person), reviewing agenda packet prior to meetings, and making essential telephone calls (all scheduled in advance).


  1. Continues the corporate existence of the organization to promote independent distribution.
  2. Shall support, encourage, and promote the philosophies of wholesale brokerage and independent distribution
  3. Ensures that the organization operates within the parameters of the Articles of Incorporation, Policy and Procedure manuals, and the By-laws; reviews and/or adopts revisions to the By-laws and the Policy and Procedure manual as necessary.
  4. Acts on proposed revisions to the By-laws and any Policy and or Procedure Manuals.
  5. Determines and assumes responsibility for internal policies and adopts policy to determine the purpose, governing principles, functions, activities and course of action of the organization.
  6. Regularly evaluates and reviews the organization’s operations and maintains standards of performance.
  7. Monitors the activities of the organization, including: reviewing reports of appropriate committees, confirming, modifying or rejecting proposals, providing feedback on committee plans or the CEO’s actions.
  8. Provides ideas, leadership and prestige to the organization and inspires confidence in its services.
  9. Elects and recruits new board members within the organization’s recruitment policy as vacancies occur.
  10. Approves and monitors the corporate finances of the center.
  11. Ensures compliance of budgeted expenditures to the contracts issued by the Rehabilitation Service Administration, Department of Rehabilitation and other local, state and federal funding agencies.
  12. Attends monthly board meetings, any in-person retreat and annual meeting. No more than 3 excused absences.
  13. Understands that the board is responsible for and takes the lead role in the organization’s fund raising efforts and other activities.
  14. Members of the Board of Directors are expected to serve at least a two (2) year term.

  • November 2-6, 2020 - Nomination Committee Review of Applications.
  • November 9-13, 2020 - Nomination Committee Contact/ Response to Interested Applicants.
  • November 16-20, 2020 - Final Selection & Candidate Notification.
  • November 30 - December 11, 2020 - Membership Vote (Virtual) on Candidate(s) Slate.
  • December 14, 2020 - Board of Directors Announcement (Virtual) of Executive Committee & New Director(s).
  • December 16, 2020 - 2021 NAILBA Chairman Address (Virtual).

*Once an applicant is approved as an active Board Member, (s)he is required to attend monthly Board meetings, serve on a committee, participate in Board education events, and contribute to the sustainability of NAILBA. By submitting this application, you are verifying that all information provided is true. All submissions are reviewed by the NAILBA Board Nomination Committee. Candidates of interested will be contacted for a phone interview and any potential next steps.
