Edward Murray Receives 2005 Mooers AwardHighest Honor Bestowed in Wholesale Life Brokerage Industry

Fairfax, Va. – Edward Murray, chairman of Murray and Zuckerman, a Schenectady, NY based wholesale life insurance brokerage agency, received the "Douglas H. Mooers Award for Excellence" at the 24th annual meeting of the National Association of Independent Life Brokerage Agencies (NAILBA) held November 17 – 19 in Phoenix, Az.

Named after a founding member of NAILBA, the Mooers Award recognizes those individuals who have demonstrated a lifetime of service not only to the life insurance business and to the wholesale brokerage community, but also through their contributions and services to one's fellow man and to society in general. Murray is one of only 19 honorees to receive the prestigious Mooers Award in NAILBA's 24-year history.

"Ed Murray's contributions to our industry and to NAILBA are immeasurable," said NAILBA Chair Kevin T. Merz, CLU, ChFC. "His passion for this business, love of family and one-of-a-kind personality made him a popular choice for this year's award and deservedly so."

Murray and his partner, Gordon Zuckerman, have built the Murray and Zuckerman agency into one of the leading wholesale life brokerage agencies in the country. With an agent base measured in the thousands, their goal has never changed: provide the best possible solutions for a client's life insurance needs, no matter how tough or how complex.

Murray is a former chairman of NAILBA and served for several years as treasurer. He currently represents NAILBA on the board of directors of the LIFE foundation. His other contributions include organizing and running the NAILBA annual golf tournament and serving as the organization's golf master. He is also involved with other brokerage organizations such as Sub-Centers and serves as treasurer of The Marketing Alliance (TMA).

Additionally, Murray is a valued member of the Edison Club, The Irish American Partnership, the VFW and the American Legion, Vietnam Veterans, the Mohawk Club, the New York Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors, and the New York State Health Underwriters.

Murray's 34-year insurance career began in 1971 with John Hancock, followed by a career change with the Colonial (The Chubb) Group and then into the wholesale brokerage agency business. He was born in Brooklyn, NY and is a graduate of St. Bonaventure College. A dedicated husband, he has been married to Barbara for 36 years, has 2 married daughters, Stephanie and Pamela, and has recently become a grandfather.
