As my year in service as your Chairman closes, I am pleased to report that our organization remains strong and steady in the face of a rapidly changing business environment.  In this second year of our three-year Strategic Plan, I remain optimistic for our association’s future. Our activities this year were forward and future-focused in order to increase our value to our members and our relevancy to the brokerage community.

After considerable member, exhibitor and sponsor feedback on NAILBA 34, the Board re-evaluated the program including the schedule and our audiences’ priorities for attendance. Accordingly, as you will see in the Professional Development report, greater emphasis was placed this year in the planning of educational content for the upcoming meeting. This ability to respond nimbly to our community’s feedback and changing needs is one of the greatest strengths of our organization and our Board of Directors.  We are confident that the changes implemented for this year’s meeting will result in an improved member experience.

This year also saw our continued collaborations with affiliated organizations in the financial services and brokerage community. We celebrated a two year anniversary of our advocacy partnership with AALU and continue to look for ways to strengthen and deepen our collaboration. We continue to support the work of Life Happens and others representing your interests to consumers. Once again, we supported the Independent Advisors Networking event at the NAIFA Performance + Purpose to help independent advisors recognize the value of working with NAILBA member agencies. We connected our members with the Life Brokerage Technology Committee (LBTC) to ensure that the technology needs of brokerage were represented, and we increased the opportunity for members to have conversations with ACORD on industry standards. Moving forward, our strategic initiatives will continue to link NAILBA member needs with myriad offerings of other like-minded organizations including AALU, NAIFA, LIDMA, and others, as well as new programs and products developed by and for NAILBA members.

At the end of its first year our members-only online community, NAILBA Network,  has met or exceeded industry benchmarking standards for participation and engagement. Our capable staff and committee volunteers continue to look for ways to drive engagement with this valuable member benefit. 

My successor, Jim Sorebo,  will continue our efforts, by leading the organization toward new opportunities and increased member engagement. To continue to deliver the goals of our Strategic Plan and move the organization forward, we will need many of you to step up and join us in service to NAILBA.  As part of our commitment to continue making the changes you’ve requested of your association, we have been reviewing and revising the way we marshal our volunteer resources. To that end, as we identify our volunteer needs we will be creating ways to allow you to contribute your talents with a minimal impact on your time away from your own business. I strongly encourage you to volunteer during this exciting time of change and growth.
